What is Air Pressure Testing?

Air Pressure Testing (otherwise known as an Air Tightness Test or Air permeability test) calculates the permeability of the air in a building. This allows you to find out the amount of air that escapes your property or building, effecting how energy efficient the building is. The testing is carried out in accordance with Approved Document Part F under government Building Regulations – Ventilation of the building regulations.

Why is it important to have an Air Tightness Test?

Not only will having air pressure testing carried out help to improve your day to day living, reduce energy costs and carbon emissions; it is also a requirement for Part L1A and L2A of the building regulations.

What does this mean? Simply, it means that all new building projects (whether it be residential or commercial) will be required to have an air permeability test carried out on completion of the project.

The result of this test will feed into your overall Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculation or Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) assessment to determine whether the property or building meets standards in terms of energy efficiency.
